Neomarica caerulea ‘Regina’ – Giant Apostle’s Iris (4″ pot)
We introduced this tropical Iris into the US from Brazil and named it after Mrs.Gardino. This is a drought tolerant, clump type Iris that produces beautiful, lightly perfumed, purple blue flowers from February to August. This easy to grow plant is recommended for beginners.
Ships in 4″ pot. Does not come with flowers.
Description
Neomarica caerulea regina is one of our best new plants in cultivation. It is one of our introductions from Brazil. The exact species is still unknown but it is very similar to Neomarica gracilis caerulea. This was the first plant that we released in the US. This large, tropical Iris is quite easy to grow. It grows well in pots or in the ground. It will grow in partial sun to shade but filtered light is ideal.
Moisture is average, and so is fertilization requirements. We are not sure how much cold it can handle but our crops have been exposed to freezing temperatures a few times and no signs of damage. The flowering season is long, from February to August depending on the size of the clump. The flowers have a delicious light fragrance. This is not a water Iris.
