Browneopsis ucayalina – Maroon Handkerchief
Very unusual medium size tree native to Ecuador that develops maroon and green camouflage-like growth. The leaves will mature to medium green color. Rarely offered and a great addition for a collector.
Description
Spectacular pendant leaves with camouflage-like pattern. This growth can occur 3-4 times a year. The leaves mature to green color.
It is a medium size tropical tree that loves humidity and water. We grow it in south FL and it receives filtered light to some sun in the morning. Best if protected from wind. A slow growing understory tree.
I’ve heard that it can be grown for many years in a container and indoors with proper adjustments. I’ll leave that to the indoor experts.
Never seen flowers.
