The Christmas Island Wax Flower or Wax Vine is a striking and vigorous climber known for its robust growth and captivating beauty. This plant is characterized by its large, shiny green, elliptical leaves adorned with prominent veins. It thrives in environments where it can climb and spread, making it an ideal choice for adding vertical greenery to gardens, trellises, or indoor spaces with suitable support.
The purple and pink flowers contrast beautifully against the plant’s glossy foliage, adding a splash of color and elegance. The flowers are also fragrant at night.

Description

A beauty that is native to Christmas Island which is a territory of Australia. This species has appealing succulent medium size green leaves with visible veins. It grows really really fast for me and became an attractive full plant quickly. It is not an early bloomer, but once established, it blooms quite a bit and the flowers are gorgeous. My mother plant is sometimes covered with clusters of flowers. The corolla is mauve pink and the corona is dark pinkish-purple.
This species grows well for me, but as you can see in the photos, the leaves develop black dots from the high humidity. They are literally just “freckles” and do not affect the plant. If you grow your plants in a different climate then they should not develop spots. A rarely offered hoya.

We grow our hoyas outside in S. FL in filtered light, we keep the soil slightly dry and we protect well from cold temperatures.

All pictures were taken of our mature mother plants in bloom, not of the young plants for sale.
