Description
This cutie is a perennial in the daisy family. Some say it resembles an Aster, although it is a tropical plant. Some other common names are Blue Mist Flower, Tropical Aster, Purple Torch, and Tropical Ironweed.
To successfully grow Vernonia fulta, provide it with full sunlight to partial shade. Ensure the soil is well-draining and slightly acidic to neutral. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the growing season.
Allow sufficient spacing between plants for proper air circulation. Use a balanced fertilizer in the spring to promote healthy growth.
Pinch back young plants to encourage bushiness and deadhead spent flowers. It is a shrub growing up to 5-6 feet tall.
