Description
Costus speciosus is a beautiful member of the ginger family. It grows anywhere from full sun to filtered light and can reach up to 6′ – 7′ in height. Mature plants will flower from July to October. The flowers are magnificent, about 3″ wide, pastel pink in color and the petals have a sparkling appearance like little crystals were sprinkled on the petals. The flowers also have a mild fragrance in the morning. The underside of the leaves of this ginger are also incredible to touch. They are smoother than velvet. Costus speciosus is a tropical plant and should be protected against freezes. It will lose all of its leaves during the winter and resprout again in the spring.
