Cochliostema odoratissimum – Ecuadorian Spiderwort
Silky succulent green foliage with purple margin. It looks like a Bromeliad, but it is actually not! Showy bluish/purple flowers on mature plants and they are fragrant. Rare plant. Great addition for a collector.
Description
This Bromeliad-like plant forms a beautiful glossy rosette reaching about 3 feet long. The leaves can develop a purple margin.
The flowers are beautiful shades of purple/blue and resemble an orchid. Flowers are fragrant and can be seen many times a year.
We grow them in south Florida in bright filtered light. It likes a well drained mix and needs to be protected from frost. Appreciates humidity.
It can grow about 4 feet tall by 5 feet wide.
A fantastic plant that is hard to photograph. A must have for a collector.
