This is a beautiful hardy caudiciform tree commonly known as the ‘Frankincense of the Americas’. The species is often used as an ornamental plant that can be bonsaied. More commonly, it is used for its very fragrant resin that smells similar to frankincense. It bears non-edible fruit that splits open when ripe and releases a red seed, which are eaten by birds. The trunk swells, retaining water in preparation for drought.

Description
This tree is extraordinarily drought tolerant as well as tolerant of extreme heat. It grows in full sun in warm climates. Protect from freezing temperatures, it is very sensitive to them. Ensure that the soil has completely dried in between watering.
