Tapeinochilus ananaceae – Indonesian Wax Ginger (Email for availability)

This is an evergreen perennial native to New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia. Foliage is dark green, arranged spirally around the stems. Bracts are red in a “pinecone” shape and flowers emerge from the waxy hard bracts. The flowers are admired for their beauty and the inflorescences when displayed in a vase can last up to two weeks!

Description

Thrives in moist, humid, shady gardens. Place in a humid shady area with well-draining soil that can retain some moisture. Water less in Winter. It can grow up to 6-8′ or more and spread 5-7′, less with pruning. Protect from freezing.
