Description
We purchased this Hoya from Liddles’s Nursery in Australia several years ago. It is native to the Philippines.
This Hoya was named after the collector, Borden. It has very attractive foliage. The leaves are green, hard, long, and narrow. There is a nice pattern of white veins and also rosy blush when exposed to more light.
This Hoya took almost 3 years to bloom from a cutting and it was well worth the wait. The dramatic dark flowers that remind us of H. benguetensis are outstanding. The corolla is red-orange and the corona is deep burgundy and the flowers have a pleasant but mild scent.
This Hoya is a slow grower at the beginning, but eventually grew nicely. The flowers really have that “wow factor”. This hoya is rarely offered for sale.
We grow our Hoyas outside in south FL in filtered light, keep soils slightly on the dry side and protect from cold temperatures. Hoyas also like to grow in small pots.
