Cymbidium dayanum (4″ HB)

$40.00

Also known as the Day’s cymbidium, this plant grows in all kinds of areas; on cliffs and forests in China, on low branches and steep slopes in Sumatra, and in hollow tree trunks! It is a sequential bloomer, producing beautiful white star-shaped sepals and petals that each have a maroon colored stripe down the middle. The column and lip are maroon as well, the column having a splash of yellow and the lip having a stripe of white down the center. This plant is very used to a specific environment and pattern of care, so I would recommend this plant to an experienced plant parent or beginners looking for a challenge!

Ships in a 4″ hanging basket.

Description

This amazing and versatile plant grows anywhere from full sun to filtered sun. Just make sure if growing in full sun, the plant needs to be gradually transferred to that point. The light should be as high as possible without being in direct scorching afternoon sun. This orchid is very used to two distinctly different climates, the wet season and the dry season. The wet season is from late Spring to Autumn where the orchid receives a high amount of humidity, and the dry season from Winter to early Spring where there is medium to low humidity. They should be watered regularly in the wet season, almost every 2-3 days and much less in the dry season, gradually decreasing to about once a week. Strong air movement should be provided at all times. They are easy to grow mounted or in hanging baskets with orchid bark, perlite and sphagnum moss.
