Description

Alocasia reginula, also known as Alocasia Black Velvet is native to Southeast Asia where it can be found on the jungle floors. It’s a charming, compact, houseplant with dark, green, succulent-like leaves shaped like hearts with a velvety-like texture. Its botanical name translates to “little queen”, and its name doesn’t shy away from its looks with its silvery-white veins contrasted against the deep green shaded leaves. The leaves’ undersides are colored a pretty magenta color with spots. They are known to be compact so stay within one to two feet in height. They are perennial and grow from rhizomes. They need well-draining soil that allows the roots to breathe, and like most other alocasias do not like a lot of water.
